Promo and Excerpt: Just For Fun

JUST FOR FUN

Contemporary Romance
(Escape to New Zealand #4)
Published: 12/8/2012

SYNOPSIS:

What if the person who broke your heart turned out to be the only one who could mend it?
Nic Wilkinson is a responsible, organized, disciplined rugby player at the top of his game. Emma Martens is a sometimes-scattered, often-emotional, and always-broke would-be designer with a big chip on her shoulder where Nic’s concerned.
They have no history together, except one perfect week. Nothing in common anymore, except the most important thing of all.
Getting together again would be messy. Complicated. Scary. And, just maybe, worth every risk.

Excerpt:

“Mum!” Zack burst in through the front door. “It was brilliant!” He kicked his shoes off impatiently, dropped his rugby boots next to them before struggling out of his jacket. Nic followed him in, grabbed the jacket and hung it on the brightly painted rack next to the door when Zack would have dropped it on the floor.

Emma reached out for a hug that, Nic saw, the boy was still willing to give his mother, at least here at home. Her eyes met Nic’s as she looked over her son’s head. How did she always look so soft? So . . . pettable? She was wearing another sweater, that was all, he told his troublesome libido. Another light, lacy one, prettily trimmed once again. A pale pink cardigan with pearly shell buttons, edged in cream, over a long stretchy top and leggings. She looked like an invitation to cuddle. Like the best blankie ever.

“Can Nic stay for dinner, Mum?” Zack asked excitedly, offering a welcome distraction from his wayward train of thought. “He could help me tell you all the things we did. We’re having spaghetti!” he told Nic. “It’s really good.”
“Can’t, mate. Sorry,” Nic put in hastily at Emma’s instinctive shake of the head. “But I’ll have a glass of water, if one’s on offer.”

“Sit down,” Emma told him. “Please.”

Nic slipped off his own shoes before heading to the couch with Zack. “Cheers,” he said as she came back from the kitchen to hand each of them a glass, then took her own seat in a small armchair next to the couch, the only other option the little room offered.

“You look tired,” she said abruptly. “And bruised. Are you OK?”

“Just a bit confused on the sleep schedule, still,” Nic admitted. “I took a wee pill on the flight home, but it never works that well.”

“It’s a long way, Mum,” Zack put in. “South Africa’s really far.”

Nic took a long drink of the cold water, looked around for something to set the glass on. “Coaster?”

“Just put it down,” Emma told him.

“Don’t want to spoil this,” he said, looking more closely at the coffee table. The simple rectangle had been transformed into a forest of ferns, with native birds peeping out from underneath fronds, perched in trees. The parson-throated tui making a meal of red fruit, the colorful, stumpy takahe on the forest floor, tiny fantails darting overhead.

“You can’t,” Emma assured him. “It’s all enamels. Everything in this house is pretty indestructible.”

“Did you find the ruru yet?” Zack asked him, leaning forward.

“Don’t tell me,” Nic said. “Let me look.” Zack watched him eagerly as he searched and finally pointed triumphantly to a notch in a tree where the owl blended into the bark. “There.”

“You did this too, eh,” he asked Emma. “Nice.”

“I did everything. That’s my decorating theme. Things I made.”

“I like it,” he assured her. The warm colors of the lounge seemed to cocoon them. Two walls were a rich caramel, the others a warm yellow. She didn’t even paint every wall in a room the same color, he realized. Well, at least in the kitchen it was all the same. Purple. He wondered what color her bedroom was. How it looked. And found himself wishing, against every better impulse, that he could see it.

Excerpt:

He walked the path back to the house they were using as their headquarters at the moment; though it wasn’t much on the outside the inside made up plenty for it. As he walked in through the door he stopped and looked to the right to stare at his own reflection. Heavy bags hung under his eyes, his tan skin was much duller and his black hair a mess.
“You need to get rest. Huntir and I have everything set up so take this opportunity to gather your strength. Wearing yourself out like this will not be beneficial in guarding her.”
Lucca turned to his older brother Matteo, surprised that he had arrived so soon. “I know, I will go take a shower and get rest, there is still a lot of work that needs to be done.” He passed Matteo but not before laying his hand on his brother's shoulder as if silently reassuring him not to worry and that he was fine. Though his brother had pointed out his need for rest, his mind was running around with too many unanswered questions with no way to solve them. But one question he kept going back to was always the same, the one that would matter most in the end.
When he finally reveals the truth to her will she rise from her sorrow and be the savior they needed her to be? Or will she turn away and go into hiding like her mother did and suffer the same fate? As he got to the top of the stairs, without turning around he asked, “Why did you arrive ahead of schedule brother?” he waited for his brother to reply, a heavy silence floated between the two. He did not expect the next few words that came out of his brother’s mouth.
“We have verification on who killed Aella.”

Review: Beautiful Demons

Beautiful Demons (Peachville High Demons Book 1)

by Sarra Cannon

Synopsis:

Harper Madison isn't like other girls. She has extraordinary powers, but her inability to control them has gotten her kicked from so many foster homes she's lost count. Shadowford Home is her last chance, and she hopes Peachville High will be the fresh start she needs. But when evidence ties her to the gruesome murder of a Demons cheerleader, Harper discovers this small town has a big secret.

Genre: Paranormal Romance.

Published: October 29th 2010 by Dead River Books.

Series: Peachville High Demons #1.

Rating: 5 stars!

                                   My thoughts:

I found this book for free on Amazon. I read it a few months ago but it is still free.
The first thing that caught my attention was... (the ones that had been following my blog know this one XD) THE COVER! right!

Witches are ok, but they are not my favorite subject. Though this one is a very entertaining story and so fast paced that I seriously loved it!
(you'll see my reviews in the following days but I read the 5 published books in the series in 4 days!)

There is only one word to describe this book: ADDICTIVE!

It's a great introduction for a series, we get to know the background of the story and it clears the path for the upcoming adventures.
The writing is fun, fresh and flows perfectly.

The characters are different, they all have an interesting side. Even the evil ones!

Harper, the heroine is probably one of my favorite heroines EVER!
She is an orphan. She's been living in orphanages and foster homes her whole life but she's always been catalogued as a "problematic" girl.

When she arrives to Peachville, a little town she hadn't even heard about before, she discovers that she is not the only "problematic" girl around and she founds out why.
She is smart, caring, impulsive, she knows what she wants and pursues it! Also, she has those flaws, human flaws all 16 year old girls have. With the insecurities and all. Together those characteristics, make her absolutely real.
Ah! and she is brave and kick ass too!

On the other side we have the cheerleaders that obviously have a secret. Which Harper doesn't take long to discover.
Then we have the other girls that live with her at the foster home. Each with very defined personalities and issues.

Boys? Yup, of course we have boys. Drake and Jackson. OH MY!
I can't tell you anything without spoiling very important things but... don't we all love those dangerous- sexy guys?

As I said the book is still FREE ON AMAZON

Get it here:

It is a TOTAL MUST in your shelves.
Especially as the series develops, it gets better and better.

Every time I finish one of these books I'm like:

I'm waiting for book 6 to be released! CAN'T WAIT ANYMORE!!!

Here are the links to my reviews of the 2 books in her series.

The Soul's Mark: FOUND

The Soul's Mark: HUNTED

And here is some info about the author:

ASHLEY STOYANOFF:

I live in Whitby with my husband Jordan and two cats. Interesting fact: Whitby was ranked 16th in Canada’s best places to live for 2012. I am glad to call it home, as it is a quiet little town that lies on the outskirts of Toronto.

I do many things, most of them simple and relaxing, and some people (my husband in particular) may even call them boring. Most recently, I decided to fill my life with things that I enjoy. The hustle and bustle of city living can get the best of all of us so I say we all need to stop and smell the roses. Enjoy the simple things in life. That being said, what I actually get paid to do is work at Great-West Life as an Investment Coordinator.

I started writing in high school and promptly dropped it when life took over and I got a job. It’s funny how the things you love get pushed aside when pesky little things like paying the bills come up. Not long ago I took a hard look at my life and it hit me… all I do is work, work, work. So I pulled out my notebook and started writing and it was then that The Soul’s Mark was born.

I also enjoy reading. When I’m not writing or working, you can find me curled up with a good book. Give me romance and a supernatural twist and I’m sucked in until the last page.

My favorite authors are Charlaine Harris, Amanda Hocking, and Rachel Caine. I can and have read their works over and over.

I really enjoy live theater. There is just something so magical about watching a live production, without all the photo shop of the movies. Jersey Boy’s is my absolute favorite, and I love singing along to every song.

The most important thing in my life is family. My father used to tell me this all the time and when I was younger I swore he was wrong. Boys and friends were the most important thing EVER! But as I stepped into the real world I suddenly realized how truly right he was. Family will always be there, supporting and encouraging you but friends and boys come and go. On the family note, I have an older sister, Jonel, and two younger brothers, Cody and Travis. I am proud to say that my parents Jo-Anne and Nelson are definitely my heroes and I strive every day to be as truly amazing as they are.

Review: The Soul's Mark: Hunted

The Soul's Mark HUNTED (The Soul's Mark #2) by Ashley Stoyanoff.

SYNOPSIS:

When Amelia Caldwell learned that she was marked by a vampire’s soul, she did what any smart, self-preserving person would have done: tried to run. But thanks to the soulmate bond that tethered her mentally and emotionally to her vampire soulmate, Mitchell Lang, running was not an option and finding out she was a witch didn’t make her life any easier.

Now, Amelia has made peace with her new supernatural life and accepted her destiny with Mitchell, one of the most powerful vampires in the world. They are finally getting along but Amelia is sure he is hiding something—something big.

Little does she know that this is just the calm before the storm. When Mitchell’s former flame resurfaces and Eric’s dreams become distorted visions of his soulmate, hostility and tension threatens to tear their world apart.

Just when Amelia thinks life couldn’t get any crazier, vampires and humans start turning up dead. The killer—something more sinister and haunting than your run of the mill psychopath —is heading straight for their front door.

GENRE: Paranormal Romance.

EXPECTED PUBLICATION: Dec 10th 2012.

RATING: 4.5 stars

MY THOUGHTS:

(I want to thank the author for giving me the opportunity of reviewing this ARC.)

This book picks up a few months after the end of "The Soul's Mark: FOUND".

Amelia is finally enjoying her time with Mitchell and they are getting along well, or at least better lol.

She learned the dynamics of the house and their town and there is also a new couple around.

Here we get to know more of the supporting characters, they have a lot more involvement. Which is great because they are so complex.

I have to admit that I absolutely adored the first book in the series but Mitchell wasn't a nice character for me. As I said in the review, he seemed abusive, manipulative and he summoned a rollercoaster of emotions.

Well, at the beginning of this book, I still wanted him to die so Eric and Amelia would be together. (yay! I so love Eric)

Nothing too tragic, I wanted Ashley to kill him in some poetic way lol, but I wanted him OUT OF THE WAY.

As the events of this new story developed, I grew fonder of him.  Now instead of dying maybe he could just retreat somewhere far XD

I don't love him and he is far from being a favorite but he certainly matured a lot and his appearances were more entertaining. I could understand his motives. A little.
Though I still want Eric to be with Millie, I know what you are going to say: "Millie and Mitch are soulmates", and bla bla, WHATEVER!  I want what I want! XD

image

Eric plays a big role in this story and that made him even a better character. I don't want to spoil anything!!!

This sequel is packed of action, a lot more mystery than in the first instalment and that made it a fast read. There is a bunch of bitter-sweet events but they help build up the plot.

We have a strong enemy that they need to fight, they are cruel and won't give up easily.

The end is a cliffhanger! So I would be lying if I said I don't want to have the next book NOW lol.

As always, Ashley's writing is beautiful and flows smoothly.
Thumbs up and happy dance!!!

And you know what is also great?  Starting on Nov 26th, you'll have the incredible opportunity to win a SET of SIGNED PAPERBACK COPIES OF The Soul's Mark: FOUND and The Soul's Mark: Hunted.
You can't miss it!!!

Author Interview: Ada Adams

Author Ada Adams:

If you've been following my blog for a while, you'll know who she is because I'm a huge fan!

She is the author of the Angel Creek series. Her book ReAwakened (Angel Creek #2) is being released in a few days, and I'm honoured to be one of the host for the tour. You'll get to read my review next month.
In the meantime you can read my review of ReVamped or entertain yourself with her interview.

  1. What did you do before becoming a writer?
I have always spent a lot of my time writing and taking writing/literature classes, but I originally went to university for a Bachelor of Psychology (it helps with creating characters with unique quirks!) and a Masters of Science in Education. I also work as an actress, which is very complimentary to my writing career. What can I say? I love spending my time in imaginary worlds! :)

  1. Which is your favorite paranormal romance book? And writer?
Oh, wow. I honestly don’t know if I could isolate one single book or author. I really love the latest trend in YA literature in which paranormal romance mixes with action and strong heroines. My mind is blanking on a single top “paranormal” book that I've read recently as I usually take a little break from reading the genre while writing in it, so I’ve been on a somewhat dystopian and contemporary kick in the past few months. I have a huge list of super talented authors in that category that I’ve fallen head-over-heels in love with! Paranormal romance wise, I’m really looking forward to reading the “Vampire Academy” series (as soon as I’m done writing about vampires). It’s been recommended to me as having both action and romance, so I’m excited to check it out.

  1. Where did you get the idea for ReVamped?
I was inspired by our society’s obsession with vampires and decided to explore what would happen if vampires—feeling idolized—chose to "come out into the light". However, it wasn’t my goal to tell a story about perfect creatures—there are already so many wonderful books about strong, beautiful vampires. My focus was on writing a tale about “vampire misfits” who need a lot of revamping to actually even begin to resemble vampires. For both “ReVamped” and “ReAwakened”, I wanted to take a different approach to the genre and write an unexpected tale filled with many twists and turns.

  1. Which is your favorite character of the books?
Dawn, being the main character, is definitely one of my favorites. I like to watch her grow and mature as the series progresses. I know that I put her through a lot, but I really admire her strength and determination, as well as her love for her friends. I’m also a big fan of Razor; he’s one of those characters that’s always so much fun to write! The Misfts are as well—there’s never dull moment with that gang. Of course, we can’t forget about Sebastian! ;)

  1. What is your favorite scene from your books so far?
Hmm…that’s a very good question. I really loved writing the scene with the meat grinder in “ReAwakened”. I know, I know—call me crazy. Overall, I enjoy writing scenes where Dawn gets to kick some butt, but I’m also a big fan of emotional scenes. I loved the scene in the gazebo with Sebastian’s second note. That’s all I can say due to spoilers. It’s so hard to talk about this question without divulging spoilers! I want to be like: “the scene you-know-where when you-know-who does you-know-what”. ;)

  1. Do you prefer ebooks or paperback books? Why?
I prefer paperback books. I love running my hands over the shiny cover, feeling the pages between my fingers—you know, the usual book-lover behavior that may be considered a little crazy by those who don’t share in the sentiment. That being said, e-books are great as well, especially when travelling. You can store hundreds of them on a single e-reader and take them anywhere in the world without worrying about damage or the weight!

  1. If your books were made into a movie, what actors would you choose?
Each of my characters exists as a unique individual in my mind. When I think of what they look like, I don’t imagine an actor or anyone I know. They’re just Dawn, Sebastian, Brooke, Sophie, Hunter, and Seth. I do, however, love it when my readers create fantasy castings! It’s a lot of fun and takes off the pressure from me, hehe. So…what do you think? :)

Well, guys, I'll have to start creating a fantasy casting, yay! I accept suggestions :)

I hope you enjoyed the interview, It was so much fun to do it.
