The Offering by Kimberly Derting

offering

The Offering by Kimberly Derting True love—and world war—is at stake in the conclusion to The Pledge trilogy, a dark and romantic blend of dystopia and fantasy. Charlie, otherwise known as Queen Charlaina of Ludania, has become comfortable as a leader and a ruler. She’s done admirable work to restore Ludania’s broken communications systems with other Queendoms, and she’s mastered the art of ignoring Sabara, the evil former queen whose Essence is alive within Charlie. Or so she thinks. When the negotiation of a peace agreement with the Queendom of Astonia goes awry, Charlie receives a brutal message that threatens Ludania, and it seems her only option is to sacrifice herself in exchange for Ludanian freedom. But things aren’t always as they seem. Charlie is walking into a trap—one set by Sabara, who is determined to reclaim the Queendoms at any cost.

BOOK SYNOPSIS

What happens when your soul mate returns after twelve long years – and has no idea who you are?

Aubrey Anderson is a pediatric occupational therapist who’s spent the last twelve years rebuilding her life after a car accident killed her boyfriend and crushed her legs. A series of strokes on the way to the hospital left her with no memory of either the accident or the weeks leading up to it, so when she starts having nightmares she can’t explain, she decides to return to the scene to see if she can piece together her past.

Finn Cavallo is Lindsey Point's resident playboy, owner of a popular bar, and hero of the Cove Fire, when he pulled seven people from a burning building twelve years earlier. But his flirtatious personality hides the heart of a man who lost his soul mate the night of the fire. When Aubrey walks into his bar with no memory of who he is or what they had, he’s stunned – and it takes everything he has not to tell her about the summer they spent falling in love.

It's only a matter of time before bar conversation turns to passion on the beach and more. But when a series of events raises suspicion that Finn himself might have started the Cove Fire, Aubrey is forced to do whatever she can to discover the truth about both their pasts, including going back to the spot where it all began...

and here is the beautiful cover:

Excerpt:

Aubrey stared at her glass of wine. "God, I just – I wish I could remember something."
Finn fell again just like that, watching her catch her bottom lip in her teeth as she mulled over her words. The rhythm of her voice, the way her eyes caught the light…he was nineteen all over again, crushing on another man's girlfriend without a clue of what to do about it.
            Only he wasn't nineteen anymore.
And Aubrey wasn't here with another man.
Forget it. He was done thinking. He moved from around the bar without a word, and as he closed the distance between them, she slipped from her stool, moving toward him and landing in his arms like she'd been there all this time. His hand went to the back of her head, cupping it and easing it closer. Her chin lifted, and he caught her mouth with his, loving the way her breath hitched in her throat. She melted into him, the warmth of her curves searing his skin and soaking into the very core of him. His eyes closed.
He slid his tongue over her bottom lip, taking it slow, waiting for her to step back or break the connection. She didn't. A minute passed, then another. The kiss deepened, and he wasn't sure who pressed first, who wanted more urgently, but it didn't matter. Their tongues met, twisting over and under, delicious and wet and so hot he could barely stand it. Her hands moved from his shoulders to his waist to slide down the back of his jeans and pull him close, closer, until he knew she could feel the way he rose under her touch, wanting her like no other woman he'd ever been with.
"Oh, Finn…" she said into his mouth, and the words set him on fire. He couldn't wait, couldn't hold back one more second. His palm skimmed down her dress and beneath it, to the swell of her ass and skin so smooth he wanted to taste it. She rose onto her toes, and her mouth crushed his until she pulled her lips away and moved them to his neck and his jaw line and up to his ear, leaving a breathy trail every place she touched.
"Listen, we  – " know each other. We've done this before. He had to tell her. Didn't he?
            "I don't want to talk."

BOOK ONE:
Destiny Gift  by Juliana Haygert
Series: Everlast, #1
Publication: April 9th 2013
Genre: New Adult Paranormal Romance

Synopsis:
Thirty years in the future, a sinister New York City exists in permanent darkness.

A student at the secured NYU, nineteen-year-old Nadine has visions of Victor Gianni, an imaginary guy she has real feelings for. Afraid of being truly insane, she explains the visions away as simple daydreams, but she can no longer deny them when she bumps into Victor in real life. But this Victor doesn’t know her, and turns her away. After the encounter, Nadine’s visions change to those of eerie fates, gods she’s never heard of, demons with sharp claws they are not too timid to use … and instructions.

To discover if she’s losing her mind, Nadine follows the vague directions—with the real, rude and reluctant Victor—leading to a man who knows it all: Nadine can restore an ancient creed by unveiling the clues on her visions, and bring sunlight and peace to the world again. But that’s only if the demons and the other evil forces behind the darkness don’t stop her first.

BOOK TWO:
Soul Oath by Juliana Haygert
(Everlast #2)
Publication date: November 25th 2013
Genres: Fantasy, New Adult, Paranormal Romance

Synopsis:
Sequel of Destiny Gift (Everlast #1) – contains spoilers:

It’s been three months since Nadine last heard from Victor, Micah or Ceris, allowing her to concentrate on her own life. But until Victor and Micah find the scepters that will restore them as true gods, their human bodies will require her healing touch and it’s only a matter of time until they wreak havoc on her life again.

As if to prove that, Victor shows up at the hospital dragging along with him a swarm of demons. Nadine is forced to flee to safety. Despite her attempts to keep her loved ones protected, the demons find her, and they bring her to Imha, the goddess of Chaos.

Now, confronted by her greatest fear, Nadine finds a new motivation. Vengeance. And when seeking revenge, no risk is too great, including her own life.

TOP 10 LIST:
Kick a** heroines by Juliana Haygert

At first, Nadine isn’t a kick ass heroine. On the first book, she’s still learning who she is, what she’s supposed to do, where she’s supposed to go. On the second book, things change. Nadine grows as a character and she becomes—slowly—very kick ass on her own way. Though, I love a very good kick ass heroine, I wanted to show Nadine’s growth.
Here’s a list of my preferred kick ass heroines—besides Nadine—in no particular order:

- Katsa from Graceling by Kristin Cashore – an assassin? Everybody loves assassins, especially when they find out they are much more than that.

- Katniss from hunger Games by Suzanne Collins – Katniss is a survivor. She goes through great lengths for her family, and who doesn’t connect with that?

- Karou from Daughter of Smoke and Bones by Laini Taylor – the third heroine’s name staring with a K. Coincidence?

- Rose from The Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead – no one is more kick ass than Rose!

- Alex from The Covenant Series by Jennifer L. Armentrout

- Celaena from Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas – another assassin. I do like a great assassin with a “soft” heart.

- Alina from Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo – Alina’s transformation is amazing and I loved every second of this story.

- Tris from Divergent by Veronica Roth – like Alina, Tris grows and learns during a great story. She’s brave and loyal and strong-hearted!

- Scarlett from The Archers of Avalon by Chelsea Fine – in the first book, Scarlett doesn’t remember her past, but she’s so kick ass!

- Dez from the Denazen Series by Jus Accardo – Dez has lots of tough choices to make, but first she needs to be able to keep her smart ass mouth shut!
What about you? Who is your favorite kick ass heroine?

Thanks for having me! :)

Review: Pretty Little Liars

Pretty Little Liars (Pretty Little Liars #1)
by Sara Shepard

Blurb:

Three years ago, Alison disappeared after a slumber party, not to be seen since. Her friends at the elite Pennsylvania school mourned her, but they also breathed secret sighs of relief. Each of them guarded a secret that only Alison had known. Now they have other dirty little secrets, secrets that could sink them in their gossip-hungry world. When each of them begins receiving anonymous emails and text messages, panic sets in. Are they being betrayed by some one in their circle? Worse yet: Is Alison back? A strong launch for a suspenseful series.

My Thoughts:

5 stars :)
Of course, I discovered this book thanks to the TV show which I absolutely love and I was a little scared that I would keep comparing the book to the show and guess what? I did LOL. But surprisingly, it wasn't a problem whatsoever.

The whole book is basically episode 1 and 2 of the tv show with slight differences. (a lot more developed obviously) and I think it's great.

It was fast paced, with a simple but entertaining style. I was almost ready for a flat story but shockingly it is not AT ALL. The characters depth achieved is amazing and it is just the beginning. The author really knows how to bring them to life.

The book is in third person and each chapter focuses mainly on one of the girls at a time, Hanna, Spencer, Emily and Aria.

Hanna is a little wilder than in the show, Spencer too. Emily ... I didn't like her very much. I don't like her in the show either. And Aria, she is my favorite in both.
The differences I've found are not bad, I just had to get adjusted. Passed that, it is an enthralling story.
Spencer and Wren's moments were particularly awesome!

I read it in one day. And luckily for me I have the whole box set waiting in my bookshelf!

I won't make this long, since almost every single person in this world has watched or heard about the show so, I just wanted to say that reading this book is totally worth it.

I  hope you liked it!
Rhomy.

Review: Love's Erotic Flower

Love's Erotic Flower
by Diane Rinella

Warning: This title contains graphic language and raunchy sexual situations. It is intended for those 18 years of age and older.

BLURB:

Society’s torch only illuminates our path.

Very disturbing or somewhat intriguing? That is the question Donovan asks himself over his soul mate’s latest idea for bedroom antics. Undecided, he enters into a bet. If Lily wins, Donovan will become a willing participant in an unsettling new adventure. If she loses… Well, does Donovan really want her to lose?

Love’s Erotic Flower is an erotic, stand-alone, short story featuring the characters from the controversial New Adult Romance novel, Love’s Forbidden Flower. This piece is approximately 8000 words.

MY THOUGHTS:

This is a short story about Lily and Donovan. We met them first at Love's Forbidden Flower. I enjoyed that book a lot, so I decided to give this novella a try. It won't make much sense if you read it as a stand alone.

I liked it. Didn't blew my mind but overall it kept me glued to the pages. It's short and fast paced, perfectly written and you can see the chemistry between the characters, in every aspect.

The plot goes around a bet, which is a little cliché but Rinella managed to unfold the events in such a smart way that made it original.

After reading these 2 works of this author I can tell she has a gift to turn "taboo" topics into something enjoyable and less "offensive", so to speak.

Be open minded when you read any of her books and be aware that this one is specially passionate and steamy.
I would have liked a little more to it, I felt it was not enough but definitely I will keep an eye on her next works.

"We can’t help whom we fall in love with, and even if I could, I wouldn’t change a thing about my love for Donovan"
