Synopsis:
Thirty years in the future, a sinister New York City exists in permanent darkness.
A student at the secured NYU, nineteen-year-old Nadine has visions of Victor Gianni, an imaginary guy she has real feelings for. Afraid of being truly insane, she explains the visions away as simple daydreams, but she can no longer deny them when she bumps into Victor in real life. But this Victor doesn’t know her, and turns her away. After the encounter, Nadine’s visions change to those of eerie fates, gods she’s never heard of, demons with sharp claws they are not too timid to use … and instructions.
To discover if she’s losing her mind, Nadine follows the vague directions—with the real, rude and reluctant Victor—leading to a man who knows it all: Nadine can restore an ancient creed by unveiling the clues on her visions, and bring sunlight and peace to the world again. But that’s only if the demons and the other evil forces behind the darkness don’t stop her first.

Sequel of Destiny Gift (Everlast #1) – contains spoilers:
It’s been three months since Nadine last heard from Victor, Micah or Ceris, allowing her to concentrate on her own life. But until Victor and Micah find the scepters that will restore them as true gods, their human bodies will require her healing touch and it’s only a matter of time until they wreak havoc on her life again.
As if to prove that, Victor shows up at the hospital dragging along with him a swarm of demons. Nadine is forced to flee to safety. Despite her attempts to keep her loved ones protected, the demons find her, and they bring her to Imha, the goddess of Chaos.
Now, confronted by her greatest fear, Nadine finds a new motivation. Vengeance. And when seeking revenge, no risk is too great, including her own life.
TOP 10 LIST:
Kick a** heroines by Juliana Haygert
Kick a** heroines by Juliana Haygert
At first, Nadine isn’t a kick ass heroine. On the first book, she’s still learning who she is, what she’s supposed to do, where she’s supposed to go. On the second book, things change. Nadine grows as a character and she becomes—slowly—very kick ass on her own way. Though, I love a very good kick ass heroine, I wanted to show Nadine’s growth.
Here’s a list of my preferred kick ass heroines—besides Nadine—in no particular order:
- Katsa from Graceling by Kristin Cashore – an assassin? Everybody loves assassins, especially when they find out they are much more than that.
- Katniss from hunger Games by Suzanne Collins – Katniss is a survivor. She goes through great lengths for her family, and who doesn’t connect with that?
- Karou from Daughter of Smoke and Bones by Laini Taylor – the third heroine’s name staring with a K. Coincidence?
- Rose from The Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead – no one is more kick ass than Rose!
- Alex from The Covenant Series by Jennifer L. Armentrout
- Celaena from Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas – another assassin. I do like a great assassin with a “soft” heart.
- Alina from Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo – Alina’s transformation is amazing and I loved every second of this story.
- Tris from Divergent by Veronica Roth – like Alina, Tris grows and learns during a great story. She’s brave and loyal and strong-hearted!
- Scarlett from The Archers of Avalon by Chelsea Fine – in the first book, Scarlett doesn’t remember her past, but she’s so kick ass!
- Dez from the Denazen Series by Jus Accardo – Dez has lots of tough choices to make, but first she needs to be able to keep her smart ass mouth shut!
What about you? Who is your favorite kick ass heroine?
AUTHOR BIO
While Juliana Haygert dreams of being Wonder Woman, Buffy, or a blood elf shadow priest, she settles for the less exciting—but equally gratifying—life of a wife, mother, and author. Thousands of miles away from her former home in Brazil, she now resides in Connecticut and spends her days writing about kick-ass heroines and the heroes who drive them crazy.

I love Katsa and Katniss and Karou and Rose!!! Tris is awesome but she was a bit too broody for me in book 2. I know she had her reasons but still. I also like Alina! I I have yet to read the Covenant series but I hear it's pretty awesome I should get to that soon! Great list! :)
