Review: One Wild Night by Magan Vernon

Hello everyone!
I know I've been more than MIA (no excuses for that besides life itself...) but I promise to stay close this time. I'm so sorry I lost so many of you in the way :(

Here is a review I haven't posted yet from a book I've read a while ago.

ONE WILD NIGHT
by Magan Vernon

Genre: New Adult Romance/ Adult Romance/ Erotica

Blurb:

One Wild Night- EPISODE 1 in the first season of the Forever Wild Serial. (This is a six part series with one book releasing every 3 weeks)

One Wild Night Can Change Everything

Valerie Wilder doesn’t do serious relationships. She also doesn’t usually wake up in Vegas next to a male stripper…

A male stripper who happens to be her new husband.

A quickie divorce seems like the answer, but the Nevada legal system doesn’t think so. When her new husband suggests flying back to Chicago with Valerie she accepts, wondering if one night in Vegas could turn into something much more.

MY THOUGHTS:

When I first grabbed this short story, I thought it was going to be about a silly girl that had a complex about being fat.
And then... the last line of the first chapter surprised me completely and made me think my first impression was wrong.

Maybe my issue with this book was the fact I don't find strippers sexy at all!

make it rain happy endings cowboy stripper

Also another detail is that the story kept going from one topic to another in a random way.  And of course... another tiny piece of information: my first instinct was right: the girl is absolutely traumatized and has a moon size complex with her body... pages and pages of self criticism. At the same time, and to make the story even more "interesting", she is unsufferable.

Why?

Well... if you are silly enough to get drunk and get married with a stripper  you just met (no spoilers, this is revealed in the blurb), there is simply no need whatsoever to act as an innocent and naive person and attempt to cover yourself with the sheets in the morning... right? Not to mention that she "is aghast"...

Anyway... if I'd got paid for everytime she complained about being fat or the fact that every guy used her only for one night stands (because nobody would dare to be seen with the chubby girl... *eye roll*) , I would be a millonaire.

money at should throw projects

What else? The day after, he wants to do something nice for her... and he decides that sending her clothes to the laundy is a great idea (yeah! because there is nothing sexier than a guy getting our laundy ready... and I'm not going to even comment about what I would do if someone I don't know goes through my stuff)

After that, there was some sort of approach between them that was very good, I liked it and there is a shower scene that honestly saved the book, but just when I was getting comfy with the book I read phrases like this one:

"If I could have fucked his voice right there, I would have".

reactions wtf what omg shocked

To sum up, this book had potential (a lot) but the main character was in serious need of a self help book and she kinda ruined it for me.
The writing style, although a little messy, was nice so I will give the author another chance.

I hope you liked it!

Publication date: April 7th 2015
Genres: Adult, Erotica, Romance

Synopsis:

When you can’t resist the one person who could destroy you…
Sia O’Donnell can’t help but push the limits. She secretly attends every underground MMA fight featuring The Predator, the undisputed champion. When he stalks his prey in the ring, Sia is mesmerized. He is dominant and dangerous and every instinct tells her to run.
Every beautiful thing Ray “The Predator” touches he knows he’ll eventually destroy. Soft, sweet and innocent, Sia is the light to Ray’s darkness-and completely irresistible. From the moment he lays eyes on her, he knows he’s going to have to put his dark past behind him to win her body and soul.

Excerpt:
“I’m going to undress you. Don’t think about me. Don’t think about what scares you. Think about that canvas and what you’re going to paint. Think about the brush in your hand. The colors on your palate. Think about what inspires you. Think of something you can’t do in ink. Then do it for me.”
As he talks, his hands glide over my rib cage, his calluses sending sensual shivers across my skin. He presses his thumbs along either side of my spine, rubbing deep concentric circles, easing my tension as his fingers stroke the sides of my breasts. Such a feeling of warmth and contentment suffuses me that I lean back against him, only to have him growl a warning in my ear.
“Paint.”
“Bossy.”
“I haven’t even started.”
My body tingles. “Is that a promise?”
“You play nice, it could be a reward.” His subtle assurance warms me to my toes. He may be a predator, but he has soft fur.

With slow, gentle movements, he unzips my skirt and eases it down over my hips. Cool air brushes over my heated skin, like the wind on my face when I’m on his motorcycle. But even with that happy image in my head, a familiar tension rolls through my body. My breaths come out in pants, and I tremble.

“Use it,” Ray whispers. “Let it out. I’ve got you.”

Heart pounding, muscles coiled tight, I grab my brush, dip into the oil, and streak black across the middle of the canvas. The first stroke is always almost orgasmic, the realization of a vision, desire exposed. But this time it is my fear splashed across the canvas, a black streak marring the pristine white surface, the memory of a night I have wished a thousand times had never been. A sob rips from my throat and I drop my brush.
“Shhhh.” With a low growl, Ray runs his hands along my curves, and my breathing hitches.
Damn Luke. Damn that night. I’m going to turn my fear into some- thing beautiful. Gritting my teeth, I lift my brush and the black streak becomes a wheel, two, and then I join them with a band of red.
“Fuck.” Ray pinches my nipples between his thumbs and forefingers, his chest warm, hard against my back, his belt buckle a deliciously pleasant pain on my skin.
“Watching you paint is fucking hot.”

PTSD crisis averted, I manage a smile. “Might be your hands on my breasts is what’s making you hot.”
He grinds his hips into my ass, his erection stiff between us. “Touching you makes me hard. Watching you makes me hot.”
Gray for the chrome, more red for the fairing, abstract strokes but my brain can’t fill in the detail with Ray’s fingers grazing the bare skin of my abdomen.
“I can’t paint anymore.”
“You can.” He cups my sex from behind, spreading his fingers, easing my legs apart. “You will.”

REVIEW:

- I was given this copy in exchange for an honest review -

3.5 stars!

This is the first book I read by Allie Boniface. I was drawn to it because I thought that the names (Cocktail names) were a fun touch and also because I’m a fan of cruises.

Romance + cruises = MY THING!

What can I say about "Sex on the Beach"?

The best things:

  • First of all, the cover is gorgeous.
  • The writing style is fresh.
  • I liked the friend. Lou is amazing! And she is the protagonist of Book 1 (Tequila Sunrise) so I’ll be getting it soon!
  •  I enjoyed how the story unfolded when they were back on land, with a tiny bit of mystery and drama.
  • The sexy scenes were nicely done.
  • I found the “Savvy tip of the day” really funny and I believe it’s a nice detail.

Savvy tip of the day:

"Don’t be afraid to say what’s on your mind, even if it scares you".

  • There is a happy ending and that earn points with me hehe.

The not so amazing things:

  • Everything happened too fast, but probably because the book is short. On the bright side, that makes it super easy to read. I read it in just one afternoon.
  • I wanted more cruise story. Most of the story develops on land.
  • There were a few editing errors but they don’t divert the reader from the story at all.
  • Cass. I didn't like her much.
For example: when she first got on the cruise, she said she wasn’t there to pick up a man but she stared at two guys in 2 minutes with a lusty attitude.
And definitely, it’s different to be laid back, confident and not wanting commitment than being slutty.
As the story continued,  she changed but at first she was: "looking for her skimpiest bikini", making comments such as “men always notice my different eyes in the morning when I’m naked in their bed” in the first 5 minutes of a talk  with a guy  O.o . Sorry, but I couldn't relate to her.

Though After one unworthy accusation towards Cass, Bryce gets closer to her to help and they start connecting a bit more and she opens her heart. That part I enjoyed more because it felt more real.

Anyway, a nice summer read (ok, summer for those who live in the southern hemisphere!)
If you want a spicy and entertaining read, take a look at it.

Between the Sheets (Cocktail Cruise #3)

Andrea is determined to merge a cruise ship career and single motherhood. But that leaves zero time for sex or love, so when she has a chance for a fling with a sexy cruise ship dancer, she goes for it.
Sebastian enjoys a low-key life as the ship’s dance instructor, a welcome change from his previous life in Argentina as the star of a hugely popular dance show. But when Andrea sweeps into his life, everything changes.
Will new love help him come to terms with his past, and convince her to find room in her life for another man?

Here is an excerpt of  Sex on the Beach:

Bryce ran the back of one hand down her bare arm as he leaned over to flag the bartender. Electricity shot all the way up to Cass's shoulder, and something deliciously warm and familiar tingled between her legs. She brushed his shoulder as she reached for her drink, telegraphing a message that registered in the light of his eyes.He took a long swallow of his beer, then rested one elbow on the bar and turned toward her. Two inches, maybe one, separated them. She could smell him. If she leaned forward, she could probably taste him. And damn, but that mouth looked like it would know what to do on a woman’s body.“That pick-up line, by the way?” she said. “The good-luck charm? Weak.”He clutched his chest as if she’d shot him. “Was it that bad?” The corner of his mouth quirked up. “I thought it had flair.” He touched the neck of his beer bottle to her glass. “Women like flair.”Cass crossed one leg over the other and let her dress ride up. “Flair is over-rated.” She ran her fingers through her hair, loose and falling past her shoulders. “It takes more than that to win a girl over.” A nice ass will do, though, she thought. Good smile and wit helped too, and so far Bryce was three for three, though she wouldn’t tell him that.
“Decided to take the free cruise?”“I did.”“How’s your friend Louise?”“She’s fine. Spends a lot of time with Toby, but I’m guessing you already know that.” She sipped her martini. “What about your buddy? The one from the bachelor party? He get married yet?”“Yep. Valentine’s Day.” He cocked his head when she didn’t answer. “I take it you're not a fan?”“Of marriage? Or Valentine’s Day?” Not either one, she wanted to say.  She set her glass down after another sip. “Thanks for the drink. But I think I’ll be going.” First conversations never needed to last longer than a few minutes. She’d leave him wanting more.

Margaret never considered herself a horse person. In truth, she understands horses better than people. But when smooth-talking Joe convinces Margaret into working with the temperamental horse, she grows closer to his son Ryan, and soon learns the horse’s issues have more to do with father and son, and Ryan’s anxiety over the fact his father is now dating a woman who is only interested in the sexy Joe Wilde, and not his misfit of a son.

The only problem is Ryan wants Margaret to be his mother, so he takes matters into his own hands setting Margaret in his father’s path, every chance he gets. Even though sparks fly and sizzle between them Joe believes Margaret has despised him all his life, and decides all his  rebellious son needs is a mother. About Lorhainne

2012 was an amazing year in the publishing world for me, and it started with The Forgotten Child, which landed on the Amazon bestseller list for western romance and romance series. 2013 has seen me posted in the top 100 authors on Amazon for romantic suspense, mystery/thrillers, and police procedurals.

Where did it all begin? In 2008, I published my first novel, The Captain’s Lady, a contemporary military romance, through The Wild Rose Press. I’ve since received the rights back from my publisher, and I rewrote the book and republished it with a brand new title, Saved.

I write edgy romantic suspense (Walk the Right Road Series), western romance (Finding Love ~ The Outsider Series), and young adult mystery, and I warn my readers to expect the unexpected. I’m a mother of three children and we live on a small island in the Pacific Northwest. I encourage you to contact me by email; I do answer every email I receive.

Stay tuned. There is more to come from the Walk the Right Road Series and Finding Love ~ The Outsider Series, as well as a brand new western romance series coming later this fall, The One.

And to my readers and all of you who have shared my stories with your family and friends, a big, heartfelt thank-you.
