Review: Perfect Chemistry

Perfect Chemistry (Perfect Chemistry #1)

Author: Simone Elkeles.

Published: December 23rd 2008 by Walker Books.

Rating:

SYNOPSIS:

A fresh, urban twist on the classic tale of star-crossed lovers.

When Brittany Ellis walks into chemistry class on the first day of senior year, she has no clue that her carefully created "perfect” life is about to unravel before her eyes. She’s forced to be lab partners with Alex Fuentes, a gang member from the other side of town, and he is about to threaten everything she's worked so hard for, her flawless reputation, her relationship with her boyfriend, and the secret that her home life is anything but perfect.

Alex is a bad boy and he knows it. So when he makes a bet with his friends to lure Brittany into his life, he thinks nothing of it. But soon Alex realizes Brittany is a real person with real problems, and suddenly the bet he made in arrogance turns into something much more.

In a passionate story about looking beneath the surface, Simone Elkeles breaks through the stereotypes and barriers that threaten to keep Brittany and Alex apart.

My Thoughts:

I read this book a few months ago but I couldn't post my review until now, though this 5 stars have been shining in Goodreads since then. :)

Lately I've been caught up in a "new releases' net", meaning I am always reading books released a few days ago and I am leaving 'older' books behind.
Though, every time I searched for a cute Young Adult Romance this book popped up, and that's how I decided to give it a try.
Was it worth it? ABSOLUTELY.

This is a Young Adult Romance so it doesn't contain sexual scenes (just a few mentions) but the romance is so perfectly developed that it left me mesmerized.
It starts with a cliché: 'A bet' but as it is executed in such an expert way, I couldn't help LOVING IT.

Of course, Alex being  incredibly sexy and a little badass helped a lot lol. I like "bad boys". But I like them when they are "bad" on the surface and sweet and caring deep down.
He had a sad life and didn't have many options, that's what lead him to where he is at the beginning of the book, however, he always tried to protect his family and he has a huge heart.

Brittany is an AMAZING character. She is PERFECT. Or at least, that's how everybody sees her. Underneath that impeccable and shallow layer, there is a person that suffers constantly in hands of her mother who is always emphasizing her mistakes and defects, a pretty absent father and an ill sister that noone knows about.

When this 2 great characters collide there is, no doubt, PERFECT CHEMISTRY!
These two go through a lot and they are my favorite couple EVER. (not even Katy and Daemon from the Lux series - that I love - can beat them!)

We have 2 contrasting cultures running one into another, 2 people from different sides of the tracks, but while you turn the pages, you can't conceive the idea of Britt and Alex not being together for good.

Sometimes, I felt the "gang" stuff was a little exaggerated but what do I know? I've never been part of one so...
I loved the cover, it's cute and representative, that's how I imagine them :)
The writing is fun and smooth, the "Spanish" terms (more like Mexican I should say) were used pretty fine all the time.

We have DRAMA (but not too much), ACTION, SCHEMES, TREASON, JEALOUSY  and ROMANCE.

5 SUPER STARS FOR "PERFECT CHEMISTRY" (and all the series actually  but the rest of the reviews will come later)
